A city blessed with an abundance of nature, Higashi-Hiroshima looks out onto the tranquil scenic beauty of the Seto Inland Sea and the rich green mountains, and rural landscapes that surround it.
The city is home to Mitsujo Tumulus and Akikokubunji Temple, which offer a sense that the area once served political and cultural center.
Saijo developed into one of Japan's three great sake producing areas owing to the high quality of its water and rice, its brewing-friendly climate, and its outstanding brewing technology. Now, white-walled sake breweries with tall red brick chimneys stand side-by-side along the streets.
