Approximately 80% of Japanese brushes, including painting brushes, calligraphy brushes and make-up brushes are manufactured in Kumano-cho.
The quality is so great that Kumano brushes are exported and highly valued by many artists not only in Japan but also overseas.
Every brush is individually hand-made by a craftsman, using animal hairs suitable for the intended purpose. This is why these brushes create an exceptional touch for painting as well as for make up.
In Fudenosato Kobo, a brush museum, visitors can experience brush-making under the instruction of skilled craft workers.
