Yamato Museum

The Yamato Museum (Kure Maritime Museum) gives visitors a chance to experience Kure history, which is the history of Japan's modernization from after the Meiji Period, and learn about the science and technology (shipbuilding, steelmaking, etc.) that formed the foundation of that modernization, all the while learning about the hard work of people long past and daily life and culture of the period. Inside is a display featuring a 1/10th scale replica of the battleship Yamato, while the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, "Kaiten" the manned torpedo, Kairyu-class midget submarine, and others in the Large Objects Exhibition Room are the real thing. Outside the actual main gun turret of the battleship Mutsu and the Shinkai research submarine are on display. There is also a park with a large grass lawn that recreates the size of the Yamato.
