The shakushi (rice scoop) is one of the traditional folk crafts of Miyajima. Now you can try your hand at making your own.
After learning about the history of rice scoops, you will use brands to burn your chosen image--a torii gate, maple leaves, cherry blossoms, and so on--onto a rice scoop, creating your own unique original shakushi, which you can take back home with you.
To participate in the hands-on activities, you must have a group of five or more. Up to 40 people can be accommodated per session.
(Reservations can be made one year in advance but no later than one week before your visit.)
